Canon launches new full-frame mirrorless camera
CANON HAS launched an addition to its range of full-frame interchangeable-lens mirrorless cameras, which will be available in the Philippines by end-March.
The Canon EOS RP is the second camera in the line after Canon EOS R. This full-frame camera, Canon Marketing (Philippines), Inc. (CMPI) said in a statement, “is its most compact and lightest model yet in the EOS full-frame series but delivers a performance that punches above its weight.”
“The addition of the EOS RP to Canon’s growing range of EOS full-frame system is not only a testament to the brand’s commitment of continuously pushing forward the frontiers of photography but is also in line with our goal of further extending access to photography for aspiring photographers. Smaller, lighter, and more affordable, the EOS RP will surely delight photography professionals and enthusiasts alike,” Benny Yu, CMPI Head of Consumer Imaging and Information division, was quoted as saying in the statement.
The EOS RP has a 26.2-megapixel dual pixel full-frame CMOS sensor and a native ISO range of 100-40000 that can be expanded to an ISO range of 50-102400.
It has a Dual Sensing IS, which detects camera shaking for image stabilization that allows users to capture images at a shutter speed of up to five stops slower, as well as an in-camera Digital Lens Optimizer that corrects aberrations, diffraction, and optical distortions as you shoot.
The EOS RP’s minimum AF luminance of EV-5, meanwhile, provides accurate focus even in poorly lit conditions, while the Eye Detection AF which works even in Servo AF mode detects and ensures that the subject’s eye is always in focus even when moving and at wide open aperture. It also has a Focus Bracketing feature, which automatically shoots a series of photos based on predetermined settings such as number of shots, focusing range, and first focus point, which can then be stitched together to form the final image using the Digital Photo Professional software.
The camera likewise has a silent mode, which enables users to shoot without a shutter release sound.
As for video, the EOS RP shoots in Ultra High Definition 4K at 24p/25p video footage. The Touch & Drag AF feature lets users create pull-focus effects and transition focus by via the LCD screen. Combination IS also provides stable footages even without a tripod.
The camera weighs 485 grams and has a customizable electronic viewfinder, as well as a vari-angle LCD screen. Transferring images and videos can be done via WiFi and Bluetooth Low Energy technology, along with the Canon Camera Connect app for mobile devices.
The EOS RP is equipped with the RF lens mount, which has a short flange focal distance of 20mm. Existing EOS users will be able to use their EF and EF-S lenses with the EOS RP using a mount adapter.
In the same statement, Canon revealed its roadmap of six new RF lenses due for release this year: the ultra-wide zoom RF15-35mm f/2.8L IS USM, the standard zoom RF2470mm f/2.8L IS USM, the telephoto zoom RF70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM, the medium telephoto prime RF85mm f/1.2L USM and the RF85mm f/1.2L USM DS — which is Canon’s first lens to feature the Defocus Smoothing effect that produces softer and smoother bokeh — and the compact and lightweight zoom RF24240mm f/4-6.3 IS USM.
