IT-BPM industry beyond BPOs, IBPAP explains
WHETHER you’re looking to get in touch with a customer service rep to get your concerns across, to getting the right prescription at the hospital, and even the mobile game you’re playing while waiting— all are made possible by the expansive IT and Business Processing Management (IT-BPM) sector. The industry also encompasses financial services, animation, healthcare, IT services and software development. Many of our favorite cartoons and anime were animated in the Philippines. Even the app or software you’re using to read this was made possible by the IT-BPM sector.
To provide a more accurate description of the increasingly complex business services performed by the industry workforce, the IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) explained that it has long shifted from using “BPO” (business process outsourcing) to “IT-BPM” to mirror the developments and changes in service delivery in the past decade.
“The term ‘BPO’ does not effectively capture the industry’s expanded role, which has grown into a full suite of business processes and services across all industries,” said IBPAP President and CEO Jack Madrid.
With its expanded role, the IT-BPM industry was able to bring in over US$ 32.5 billion or about P1.8 trillion in total revenue in 2022, which is a notable chunk of the Philippines’ GDP or gross domestic product. The industry also employs over 1.7 million Filipinos across the nation.
As IBPAP is looking to add 1.1 million more jobs by 2028, the sector also presents a unique opportunity for potential employees to showcase nationalism and Filipino pride in bringing world-class talent and service to globally important work.
The Philippine IT-BPM industry is at the forefront of pushing the boundaries of employee experience, prioritizing flexibility in terms of work setup, as well as rolling out programs for constant learning, growth and overall wellness. Plus, with an expansive industry like this, IBPAP says that there is a fitting role for anyone, whatever one’s interest may be.
“If animation or gaming is your thing, or perhaps you’re a healthcare graduate looking to try a different career path, you should look into the thriving Philippine IT-BPM industry,” Mr. Madrid continued. “Not only are industry salaries competitive, we also provide continuous learning opportunities and an empowering environment with an expansive yet tight-knit community.”
Last Sept. 28, IBPAP unveiled the new Philippine IT-BPM industry branding during the 15th International IT-BPM Summit to build industry pride, attract talent, and entice more investors to the country.
