Taiwanese tech giant bares extension to eco-friendly line

-

THE eco-friendly Aspire Vero is one of the products launched as part of Acer’s extension of its line of green PCS and accessories. Made from post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic, this sustainable laptop is easy to repair, upgrade and recycle on your own. But that’s getting ahead of the story.

The Acer Aspire Vero’s chassis is made of 30 percent PCR plastic while the keycaps are at 50 percent, with the packaging made from 100 percent recyclable materials and is repurposable as a DIY laptop stand. The device is now powered by up to 11th Gen Intel Core i7 CPU with Xe Graphics, a maximum of 16GB RAM, and 1TB SSD with Wi-fi 6 support, plus a combination of USB-A and USB-C ports.

During its “Next@acer” launch, dubbed “Made for Humanity,” Acer also revealed the Travelmate Vero, a business laptop which combines the eco-friendly Vero design with 11th Gen Intel Core i7 processors.

Also included in the Acer Vero expansion are the Acer Veriton Vero, a mini and modern desktop PC designed to provide commercial-grade performance in a compact package that can be extensively customized; the Acer Vero BR277, an FHD monitor boasting green certifications from Energy Star, TCO and EPEAT; and a series of Vero accessories such as mice, mousepads and laptop sleeves were also announced.

Acer Vero products have also been designed to be easy to disassemble so getting repairs and upgrades are simplified and the lifespans of devices are increased.

One of the biggest impacts of Acer and its sustainability efforts is to make being eco-friendly and green more palatable to consumers.

“What we have also done is provide consumers who are looking for eco-friendly options with products that are not only sustainable but also perform well and are efficient. Product quality and performance are also important,” said Tiffany Huang, CO-COO and president of corporate marketing, business, and planning operations of Acer Inc.

The Aspire Vero eco-friendly laptop’s green packaging design earned a 2021 Red Dot Award for Brand & Communication Design in the “Packaging Design” category.

Several Acer products also earned 2021 Good Design Awards of Japan, including the Acer Aspire Vero notebook.

“We are not telling consumers, ‘Hey, you need to buy a PC’ even when they don’t need to. What we’re doing is offering them great products which perform well at good prices and these products are green and sustainable,” said Huang.
