Abigail Binay sets leadership priority after Makati poll win
AFTER winning the mayoralty race in one of the richest cities in the country, Makati City Mayor Abigail Binay on Tuesday vowed to encourage entrepreneurship and support start-up companies and new businesses in the financial technology (fintech) industry.
This will be made possible, Binay said, through a certification program at the University of Makati called RISE or Resiliency Innovation Sustainability and Entrepreneurship.
Binay also said that she would improve the key priorities of the city government like the delivery of primary health-care services, support start-up companies and to be more visible in furthering programs that focus on climate action.
She said that health-care services, particularly the health centers and lying in clinics, will focus on preventive medicine and education “rather than just treating illnesses.”
The city, she noted, would also be more visible in furthering programs that focus on climate action.
“Since we are currently holding leadership roles in international organizations, we will present and implement more programs concerning the environment, sustainable growth, and resilience,” she told the Businessmirror.
Binay, a reelectionist, won the mayoralty race against Joel Hernandez after garnering 338,819 votes or over 95 percent of the total votes cast. Hernandez got 16,640 votes.
Binay was proclaimed by Commission on Elections officers Atty. Kimberley Alzate-cu, election officer for District 1, and Atty. Jehan Lidasan Marohombasar, election officer for District 2 on May 10.
