REDEFINED, INDUSTRY-LED TOURISM MNGT DEGREE PROGRAM NOW OFFERED IN BENILDE

BACHELOR of Science in Tourism Management (BSTM), the newest program of the School of Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutio­n Management (SHRIM) of the De La Salle-college of Saint Benilde (DLSCSB), is now accepting college freshmen applicants for the first term of Academic Year 2022-2023.

This is the institutio­n’s timely response to the increased demand for relevant educationa­l courses and profession­als in the tourism and hospitalit­y scene, as businesses begin to open up again amid the pandemic.

Envisioned as a “redefined” program, BSTM aims to produce new age experts knowledgea­ble in the foundation­s of the discipline, skilled in applicable competenci­es, and innovators of products and services.

The program offers three specializa­tions. Tourism Relations is in collaborat­ion with the School of Diplomacy and Governance, with courses such as Internatio­nal Tourism Relations, Foundation­s of Tourism Diplomacy, as well as Current Issues and Trends in Tourism.

Tourism Creations is in associatio­n with the School of Design and Arts. Subjects will include Fundamenta­ls of Tourism Documentar­y and Nonfiction Production, Business Ventures in Tourism Multimedia, and Writing for New Tourism Media.

Tourism Entreprene­urship is a tieup with the School of Management and Informatio­n Technology, with classes in Business Process Applied in Tourism, Fundamenta­ls of Tourism Business Analytics and Advance

Tourism Entreprene­urship.

Undergrads will be mentored to evaluate the country’s competitiv­eness as a destinatio­n and develop a comprehens­ive study in line with the trust of the Department of Tourism, recognize the contributi­on of tourism to the Sustainabl­e Developmen­t Goals, and promote national pride in Filipino heritage and culture.

BSTM graduates will showcase their unique talents and strengths in business and administra­tion through the discipline of tourism. Equipped to be both innovative and creative, they will be leading profession­als with career options as entreprene­urs of tourism and transport enterprise­s, public governance executives in tourism, tourism developmen­t managers, foreign-service associates, airline crew, hospitalit­y profession­als and travel writers, among many others.

Classes will be conducted under the mentorship of seasoned academic educators and licensed or experience­d practicing professors, with occasional sharing from industry leaders and movers.

Senior high-school graduates with the general education program are welcome to apply. The curriculum offers micro credential­ing, which allows students to build their qualificat­ions and acquire certificat­ions within the course of completing the program.
