DOH reports persistent climb in Covid-19 cases

THe Department of Health (DOH) on Friday said national and most regions in the Philippine­s continue to show an uptrend in Covid-19 cases, but remain at low-risk case classifica­tion with average daily attack rates also still at the same low-risk level.

A report presented by DOH officerin-charge Health Undersecre­tary Maria rosario Vergeire presented to the media late Thursday night showed that national case trend continue to rise now averaging more than 1,700 cases per day in the recent week.

Average daily reported cases:

July 08-July 14: 1,751

(higher by 40 percent) July 1-July 7: 1,247 (higher by 47 percent) June 24-June 30: 847 (higher by 50 percent) June 17-June 23: 566

“Most areas show sharp increase in cases with ncr [national Capital region] showing the steepest increase, now almost at 750 cases per day,” Vergeire’s report stated.

Mindanao, meanwhile, remains on a slow uptrend.

Vergeire stated that health-care utilizatio­n rates are also at low risk in all regions.

“national severe and critical admissions remain less than 1 percent of total hospital admissions with total beds utilizatio­n remains at low risk at 23 percent utilizatio­n rate,” the report showed.

As compared to the previous week, available beds slightly increased by 476 (2 percent), while admissions also increased by 567 (10 percent) beds.

national ICU utilizatio­n remains at low risk at 17 percent utilizatio­n rate. Compared to the previous week, while available ICU beds increased by 165 (6 percent) while admissions also increased by 54 (12 percent).

NCR cases

CASES in the ncr remain on an uptrend showing smaller increases in the recent few weeks; seven-day moving average (7DMA) cases in the current week is higher by 29 percent from the previous week.

Average daily reported NCR cases:

July 08-July 14: 748

(higher by 29 percent)

July 01-July 07: 582

(higher by 42 percent)

June 24-June 30: 411

(higher by 47 percent)

June 17-June 23: 279

Deaths

DEATHS, on the other hand, is on continued decline from January peak, averaging about one death per day in May 2022.

Positivity rate

According to the report, national weekly positivity rate increased to 10.6 percent.

in ncr, the weekly positivity rate is 13.0 percent.

“ncr, CAR, regions 1, 2, 3, 4-A, 4-B, 6, 7, and 10 with positivity rates greater than or equal to 5 percent,” the report said.
