Central Luzon is top agri producer in 2023—PSA data

DOUBLE-DIGIT growth in livestock production made Central Luzon the region with the largest contributi­on to agricultur­e gross value added (GVA) in 2023, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

Based on the Regional Value of Production in Agricultur­e and Fisheries, PSA said Central Luzon production amounted to P239.05 billion or 13.5 percent of total agricultur­e GVA in 2023.

In terms of growth rate, livestock production in Central Luzon surged 30 percent while poultry production rose 6.4 percent in Central Luzon.

Crop production in Central Luzon, dubbed the rice granary of the Philippine­s, inched 0.5 percent while fisheries contracted 0.01 percent.

Apart from Central Luzon, other regions that accounted for the largest shares in agricultur­e GVA were Northern Mindanao and Western Visayas which posted 10.1 percent and 9.4 percent shares, respective­ly.

PSA also said Central Visayas posted the fastest annual growth in the value of production in agricultur­e and fisheries at 7.6 percent. This was followed by Mimaropa Region at 7 percent and Eastern Visayas at 3.4 percent.

Meanwhile, the biggest decline in the value of production in agricultur­e and fisheries was posted by the Bicol Region at 7.6 percent. Similarly, reductions in the value of production were noted in Western Visayas at 5.7 percent and Soccsksarg­en at 4.3 percent.

The total value of crop production at constant 2018 prices was recorded at P1 trillion in 2023. Northern Mindanao accounted for the highest share in the total value of crop production at 11.7 percent.

Cagayan Valley and Central Luzon came second and third with shares of 10.6 percent and 9.7 percent, respective­ly.

In terms of annual growth, Central Visayas recorded the highest growth in the value of crop production among all regions at 24.3 percent.

The total value of livestock production was estimated at P260 billion in 2023. The top three regions with the highest contributi­on to the value of livestock production were Calabarzon with 13.1 percent share, Central Visayas with 12.7 percent share, and Northern Mindanao with 11.3 percent share.

For the year-on-year growth, Central Luzon registered the highest increment at 30 percent in the value of production followed by Mimaropa at 16.9 percent, Ilocos Region at 14.1 percent, and Calabarzon at 12.2 percent.

For poultry, the total value of production in 2023 was valued at P260 billion at constant 2018 prices. The top three regions with the highest contributi­on in the value of poultry production were Central Luzon with a 27-percent share, Calabarzon with a share of 19.3 percent, and Northern Mindanao which accounted for 9.5 percent.

In terms of annual growth, higher increments in the value of poultry production were noted in Eastern Visayas at 24.2 percent, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao at 11.24 percent, and Mimaropa at 11.19 percent.

The total value of fisheries production amounted to P240 billion at constant 2018 prices. Central Luzon contribute­d 18.1 percent to the total value of fisheries production.

For the annual growth, increases in fisheries production were registered in Mimaropa at 28.9 percent, te National Capital Region at 19.3 percent and Caraga at 6.3 percent.
