Clark airport terminal almost ready
The new passenger terminal building of Clark International Airport is on schedule for completion by the end of the month
The full swing construction of the new passenger terminal building of Clark International Airport is on schedule for completion by the end of the month, the Department of Transportation (DoTr) said.
In a statement over the weekend, the DoTr disclosed that the airport development is now 99.14 percent complete. This was despite the limitations brought about by the implementation of strict community quarantine in Luzon.
“This development will not only help ease air traffic congestion at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport but it will also pave way for the creation of job opportunities in the region,” the transportation department said.
Based on their agreement with the government, contractor Megawide is scheduled to deliver the project to Bases and Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) by 31 July.
Megawide won the auction for the development of the new Clark terminal in 2017.
The airport’s new terminal is designed to increase the capacity of the airport from 4 million passengers per annum (mppa) to 12 mppa. Once finished, it will boost and triple the current passenger capacity, from 4.2 million to 12.2 million passengers annually.
In another development, Public Works Secretary Mark Villar this week bared that the first phase of the 19.8-kilometer access road to CRK from New Clark City in Tarlac is almost complete at 88 percent.
After the NAIA, Clark is the second main gateway to Luzon. It has a rated capacity of roughly 4 million passengers per year. It is operated by North Luzon Airport Consortium composed of Filinvest Development Corp., JG Summit Holdings Inc., Philippine Airport Ground Support Solutions Inc., and Changi Airports Philippines Pte. Ltd.
