Pedestrians benefit from Taytay footbridges

The footbridges may now be accessed by pedestrians

The newly constructed footbridges along the Manila East Highway in Barangay San Juan, Taytay, Rizal are now open for public use, a municipal government official said on Monday.

Taytay General Services Office chief Vic Badaguas said the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) told Municipal Engineer Ronald San Juan the footbridges may now be accessed by pedestrians. At least, no more

patintero on the Manila East Highway,

“For weeks, Mayor Joric Gacula has been following up with Engr. San Juan of the DPWH the footbridges due to the clamor of pedestrians and netizens,” Badaguas said.

“Apart from some sacks that we have removed that were left behind after finishing touches were made, from Mang Inasal/ Greenwich, people can now use it to cross to Burol,” he added.

Meanwhile, the other footbridge from BPI may be used partially, though pedestrians can access it only up to Jollibee, since Meralco has not yet finished relocating its cables.

The taytay official said the town’s traffic control management will have to implement adjustments on the designated pedestrian crossing on this part of the road.

“At least, no more patintero on the Manila East Highway,” he said.

Meanwhile, Gacula expressed his gratitude to President Rodrigo Duterte, Governor Rebecca “Nini” Alcantara-Ynares and Rep. Jack Duavit now that the footbridges were finally opened to the public.
