Antique Sto. Niño image burned in fire

- P. SANTOS

The Sto. Niño de Pandacan Parish confirmed over the weekend that the 400-year-old image of the Infant Jesus was one of the items that went into ashes during last Saturday’s fire.

This was announced during the Mass held outside the church last Sunday.

It was learned that a part of the dress and the ball that the Sto. Niño holds were recovered from the second floor of the convent next door, which was badly damaged during the blaze.

It was earlier reported that the relic was missing, but after the area was cleared after the fire, based on the recovered parts of the relic, it was certain that image, which was made of wood, did indeed burn.

Despite the church’s present condition, a Mass was held outside it last Sunday. The partially burnt image of the Black Nazarene and other statues recovered from the ashes were displayed in the background.
