Isabela housing project benefit 1,000 families
A housing project jointly initiated by the Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC) and the municipal government of Jones in Isabela is set to provide roofs over the heads of more than 1,000 lowincome families in the said town.
Funded through SHFC’s flagship initiative, the Community Mortgage Program (CMP), said housing project was made possible through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by SHFC Executive Vice President Atty. Junefe Payot and Mayor Leticia Sebastian via video conference held on 9 July.
Under the deal, SHFC will finance the lot acquisition, site development, and house construction of the Jones Isabela CMP Homeowners Association Inc., to be composed of 1,166 families — market vendors, health personnel, teachers, government employees, and overseas Filipino workers — from Barangay Payac and Barangay San Isidro.
This is a long-term solution to the problem brought by the pandemic.
The virtual MoU signing, witnessed by Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development Assistant Secretary Leira Buan and SHFC North Luzon Regional Operation Vice President Jones Tomas, was the third of its kind for SHFC and attested to its dedication to its mandate despite the national health crisis brough by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
S HF C first two endeavors were similar agreements with Daet, Camarines Norte and Taysan, Batangas.
“This is a long-term solution to the problem brought by the pandemic. If there is enough space in the household, we can assure social distancing is followed. And if the surroundings are clean, we can prevent the spread of diseases,” Payot said.
Sebastian, meanwhile, described the partnership as the realization of her lon g-time dream to provide decent and affordable housing for her constituents.
“This will create jobs such as carpenters, plumbers, and electricians, and will open business opportunities for small enterprises,” noted Sebastian said.
To date, SHFC has forged similar agreements with 89 local government units, including 14 new partners added this year with over P16 billion in loan assistance under the CMP.
This will create jobs such as carpenters, plumbers, and electricians, and will open business opportunities for small enterprises.
Despite the COVID-19 crisis, SHFC continues with its vision of providing adequate housing, which has become even more crucial now given that the transmission of illnesses happen fast in congested informal settlements.
