Clark terminal ready by July

The new passenger terminal building of the Clark International Airport (CRK) is all-set to start serving passengers by early next year, Department of Transportation (DoTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade said in a briefing yesterday.

Tugade underscored that the airport development will not only help ease air traffic congestion at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) but it will also pave the way for the generation of significant job opportunities in the region, which will aid efforts to jumpstart the economy.

Latest DoTr report showed that the construction of the new terminal building is now 99.14 percent done, with Tugade projecting completion by the end of the month.

Contractor Megawide previously agreed to deliver the project to the Bases and Conversion and Development Authority by 31 July despite the limitations brought about by the implementation of a strict community quarantine in Luzon.

CRK capacity tripled

Megawide won the auction for the development of the new Clark terminal in 2017.

The airport’s new terminal, once finished, will triple the current passenger capacity to 12.2 million passengers annually from the current 4.2 million.

In another development, Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar this week bared that the first phase of the 19.8-kilometer access road to CRK from New Clark City in Tarlac is almost complete at 88 percent.

The airport is operated by North Luzon Airport Consortium composed of Filinvest Development Corp., JG Summit Holdings Inc., Philippine Airport Ground Support Solutions Inc. and Changi Airports Philippines Pte. Ltd.
