A man is currently receiving treatment after he shot himself while fighting over a gun with one of the cops who arrested him in an entrapment operation in Caloocan City yesterday morning.

The suspect, identified as Angelito Mandap, 32, of Libis Talisay, was complained of harassment and attempted rape by a 15-year-old girl in exchange for a cell phone.

In his report, P/Maj. Amor Cerillo of the Northern Police District Special Operation Unit said the operation was carried out at 10 a.m.

After Mandap contacted the victim, a resident of Barangay Taniong in Malabon, she immediately informed the police.

At the meeting place, the suspect teased the victim to have sex with him in exchange for the phone. At that moment, authorities approached the suspect and handcuffed him.

When arrested, the suspect tried to fight back and snatched the gun from one of the policemen who arrested him. He was immediately restrained during the fight. However, the gun suddenly fired, hitting the suspect’s navel and the bullet exited through the right side of his back.

He was immediately rushed to the Caloocan City Medical Center where he is currently receiving treatment.

The victim reported Mandap for fear that he would not stop harassing her. Apart from trying to talk her into having sex with him, she alleged there were instances when he tried to rape her.

When authorities conducted a verification, it was learned Mandap is on the drugs watchlist of Barangay 12 of Caloocan City.

The suspect is facing charges of violating Republic Act 7610, or the Special Protection of Children Against Child Abuse, Discrimination and Exploitation.
