PVL squads brace for bubble camp
Squads are ready to launch their respective bubble trainings outside Metro Manila in preparation for the upcoming season of the Philippine Volleyball League (PVL).
Coaches of Sta. Lucia, Chery Tiggo and PLDT Hope Fibr are all excited, saying that they are gearing up to having face-to-face training with their players after a very long break due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
Eddieson Orcullo of the Lady Realtors said they already held a semi-bubble training camp at their gym in Cainta before the imposition of the enhanced community quarantine and Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
The team also has its own hotels in nearby provinces, making it easier for them to hold training in preparation for the inaugural professional season of the PVL.
Moreover, we are considering the timeframe or schedule as to when the tournament will start.
“Sta. Lucia has its own gym in Cainta, and we held a semi-bubble training there before the second lockdown last 29 March. The team also has its own hotels, where players stayed during the bubble,” Orcullo told Daily Tribune.
Chery Tiggo is also on the same boat as it can easily train outside the moderate enhanced community quarantine areas.
“We are still discussing the venue and the approval that goes with it. Moreover, we are considering the timeframe or schedule as to when the tournament will start,” said Chery Tiggo coach Aaron Velez, who will parade a powerhouse cast that has Jaja Santiago, Dindin Manabat, Mylene Paat and Eya Laure in the professional league.
PLDT coach Roger Gorayeb is also excited, but admitted that it’s going to be a tough decision since it requires additional cost for accommodation, food and allowance of the players and coaches.
“We have the same plan of conducting bubble training. But it will be a tough decision for the team management, especially since holding such training requires additional and hefty cost,” Gorayeb said.
