Taguig infection isolated case
The Taguig City government said the case came from a Taguig-bound returning overseas Filipino worker, an isolated and recovered case detected in May
The Taguig City government is monitoring the reported case of Covid-19 Delta variant detected, according to an official leading its pandemic efforts.
Taguig Safe City Task Force head Clarence Santos said one of the city’s 73 detected variants was found to be the Delta variant, citing a report from its City Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit (CEDSU).
Based on the CEDSU report as of 12 July 2021, the city has 73 cases of Covid-19 variants.
Based on the report, Santos said they have one case of Delta variant, which was the variant first detected in India.
He said Taguig City also has 26 cases of the Alpha variant and 46 cases of the Beta variant.
It was not immediately clear if the Delta variant case in Taguig City was among the new cases earlier announced by the Department of Health (DoH).
On the other hand, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire clarified the Delta variant case detected in Taguig was not a local infection.
The city government confirmed that a Delta variant case has been detected in the city.
In a statement, the Taguig City government said the case came from a Taguig-bound returning overseas Filipino worker, an isolated and recovered case detected in May. The OFW had gone on quarantine upon arrival in the country and had been cleared from the virus
The patient was not released from quarantine until he recovered, and was never able to set foot in Taguig when he was still infected with the virus.
The city stressed that even before any case of the Delta variant was detected in the country, the Taguig Safe City Task Force formed Special Task Group Delta Force to prepare for the possibility of local transmission of the variant in the community.
To date, none of those who have been genome sampled was found to have the Delta variant.
“We continue to remain vigilant and implement the Prevent-Detect-Isolate-Treat-Reintegrate strategy against all Covid-19 variants to ensure the continued protection of Taguigeños,” Dr. Jun Sy, City Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance head, said.
Vergerie had said the Department of Health had not detected a local case in Taguig.
“What the city of Taguig was mentioning was a returning overseas Filipino who was found to have the variant and whose permanent residence is in Taguig,” she said.
