The local government of Mariveles, Bataan disclosed that no less than Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go has committed to provide additional coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccines for the senior citizens of the town.

Mariveles Mayor Mayor Jocelyn P. Castañeda said that the senator had reached out to her and vowed to provide more Covid-19 jabs to be inoculated to senior citizens, noting that vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. was also included in the call.

“Secretary Galvez assured Sen. Bong Go and yours truly that they will immediately provide additional vaccine to get vaccinated some 10,000 senior citizens. So far, only 3,000 senior citizens were inoculated in Mariveles,” Castañeda said.

Meantime, the Mariveles mayor disputed the recent report from the OCTA Research Group that cited that the town was categorized as “very high risk,” noting that it may be the reason why the Inter-Agency Task Force retained Bataan under modified enhanced community quarantine.

“We welcome the observation of the OCTA Research Group. I personally have high regard for them as an independent panel of experts that has helped tremendously in providing analysis of pandemic statistics and recommendations,” said Castañeda.

“But the truth of the matter is we were considered very high risk because they based their analysis on the Department of Health’s website designated for reporting Covid-19 cases, which has delays in uploading of cases at times. This was also mentioned in the very article and they called it a possible “clustering” of cases,” she added.
