Shear line devastates over 131K families

Of the total reported missing, 12 each are from Bicol and Eastern Visayas, two from Northern Mindanao and one each from Western Visayas and Zamboanga.

A total of 131,028 families or 509,340 individual­s were affected by the heavy rains brought by the shear line in the Visayas and Mindanao while the death toll has climbed to 44 with 12 injured and 28 reportedly missing, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council.

The NDRRMC said 24 of the deaths were reported in the Northern Mindanao region, six in Bicol, four each in Zamboanga and Davao, and three each in Eastern Visayas and Caraga region – with most of them died by drowning and landslides.

However, only 13 of the reported fatalities have so far been validated.

Of the total reported missing, 12 each are from Bicol and Eastern Visayas, two from Northern Mindanao and one each from Western Visayas and Zamboanga.

NDRRMC said a total of 129 road sections and 14 bridges were affected, leaving three roads and four bridges still unpassable.

Two areas in Northern Mindanao and one in Caraga are still experienci­ng power interrupti­on, while one area in MIMAROPA and one in Northern Mindanao had no water supply.

Bicol region recorded a P2,050,000 damage to irrigation and it has suspended 67 classes.

Meantime, more than P1.13 billion in damaged infrastruc­tures was recorded in regions of MIMAROPA, Bicol, Northern Mindanao, Davao and Caraga and the NDRRMC also reported a total of 4,522 damaged houses amounting to P54,900,000 have been logged in MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Davao region, Northern Mindanao, Caraga and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

Loss to agricultur­e has climbed to P232,731,657.42, mostly affecting crop areas in MIMAROPA, Bicol Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Nothern Mindanao and Caraga regions.

The government said concerned agencies are already providing assistance amounting P51,406,854.87 which were distribute­d in form of family food packs and other food items, emergency shelter, hygiene and shelter repair kits, blankets and other ready to eat meals.
