Schrock rocks — ferre

Philippine men’s national football team head coach Josep Ferre tips his hat to captain Stephan Schrock as he plays his final international game for the country.

Ferre said during a pre-game press conference ahead of the azkals’ aFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup against Indonesia that Schrock has been helpful in getting familiar with the national team.

He also lauded the former Bundesliga man’s work ethic, saying Schrock has set a great example for the team.

“I have to say that he has been helpful during my time here. I’ve only been here for a month and he’s helping out to do what’s best for the team,” said Ferre, who arrived in the Philippines last December to replace Thomas Dooley.

“He doesn’t train like a senior or an experienced player, he trains like a player who came from the academy who wants to show something, so I used this time to say thank you to Schröcky.”

as of press time, the azkals are hoping to get the win over the Indonesians and give Schrock a fitting end.

Playing for the Philippines for 11 years, the Filipino-german midfielder played 56 games prior to the match against Tim garuda and scored six goals.

He was part of the 2014 azkals team that reached the final of the 2014 aFC Challenge Cup in Maldives where they lost to Palestine, 0-1.

Schrock was also the lone azkals player to ever score in the asian Football Confederation asian Cup after scoring a free kick in a group match against Kyrgyzstan in 2019.
