Shear line damage millions-worth of agri, infra

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said on Sunday that damage to agricultur­e due to the flooding and other effects of the shear line has reached P325.279 million, while the damage to infrastruc­ture was pegged at P268.565 million.

In its situation report, the NDRRMC said the National Irrigation Administra­tion recorded P2,050,000 worth of damage as the shear line also damaged 5,152 houses, which cost P101,615,000.

There were also some damages to 4,242 homes, while 910 houses were completely destroyed.

The shear line affected a total of 170,978 families or 681,500 people in 1,133 barangays.

Of the total people affected, 4,711 families or 16,300 people stayed in 100 evacuation centers, while 10,909 families or 40,918 people went to other places to stay safe.

Meantime, the death toll remained at 52, of which 13 were confirmed and 39 are still being verified. There were also still 18 people missing and 16 people were injured.

Meanwhile, the NDRRMC said several regions affected by shear line-caused rains and floods received P105,131,285.14 in assistance.

The regions of Mimaropa, Bicol, Western, Central and Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao and Caraga Regions, according to the NDRRMC, all received relief.

The assistance was composed of family food packs, emergency shelters, hygiene kits, blankets, bottled water and other relief items.
