Palace bares 3 appointments
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has appointed three new officials to various agencies and offices, Malacañang announced on Tuesday.
The Presidential Communications Office said the President named Romulo Victoria Arugay chairperson of the Commission on Filipinos Overseas.
Established in 1980, the CFO is an agency under the Office of the President mandated to uphold the interests, rights, and welfare of overseas Filipinos.
The CFO is different from the newly-established Department of Migrant Workers, headed by Secretary Susan “Toots” Ople.
Several bills have been filed to merge the DMW, CFO, Philippine Overseas Employment Agency, Philippine Overseas Labor Offices, and other government offices dealing with overseas Filipinos to optimize government service to Filipinos living abroad.
Also appointed by the President was Mario Imperial Molina as an acting member of the Board of Trustees of the Government Service Insurance System or GSIS.
The Chief Executive also picked Joan Masilang Padilla as the administrator of the Intramuros Administration or IA.
The GSIS is a social insurance institution that provides an array of social security benefits to government workers.
The IA, on the other hand, is an agency under the Department of Tourism that is mandated to administer and improve the historic walled city of Intramuros in Manila.
The PCO has yet to release the appointment papers of the three and no further information about the new officials’ career backgrounds was immediately provided.
