‘Jealousy, look at what you’ve done’

Authorities from the Quezon City Police district reported that a Grade 7 student was allegedly stabbed to death by his classmate in a fit of jealousy inside the Culiat High School in Quezon City on Friday morning.

Police said that the 13-year-old student died while being rushed to the New Era Hospital while QCPD personnel arrested the 15-year-old suspect at the Salaam Compound in Barangay Culiat.

Investigations showed that the alleged stabbing transpired around 5:45 a.m. inside the school and upon seeing the victim fall to the ground bloodied, the suspect hurriedly fled to an unknown direction.

Meantime, the Department of Education-National Capital Region, in a statement, said that it is “deeply saddened and disturbed” by the alleged stabbing incident.

“We are deeply saddened and disturbed that violent incident such as this happened among our students inside the school which is supposed to be a safe place,” the DepEd-NCR said.

As reported by the Schools Division Office of Quezon City, students who witnessed the said incident already underwent psychological first aid.

The DepEd-NCR — through the Schools Division Office of Quezon City and Culiat High School — said it will extend assistance to the family of the victim.

On the other hand, the Regional Interim Learners Rights and Protection Section — in coordination with the Division Child Protection Unit and the School Child Protection Committee — will also come up with appropriate intervention mechanisms for the CICL student and shall facilitate for his continuous education through alternative modes.

The DepEd-NCR — through the Schools Division Office of Quezon City and Culiat High School — said it will extend assistance to the family of the victim.

The DepEd-NCR also said it will conduct a follow-up stress debriefing sessions to students and teachers who witnessed the incident.

The DepEd regional office also called on school administrators, teachers, non-teaching personnel, parents, students and all stakeholders to work together in raising and educating children to become peace-loving and responsible members of the community.

“DepEd-NCR shall continuously work with all stakeholders to ensure the safety and protection of our learners in our schools,” it said.
