Robinson has what it takes to lead La Salle back to the UAAP finals.

For Topex Robinson, getting appointed as De La Salle University head coach is more than just a job. It is the realization of a lifelong dream. In an interview, the 48-year-old Robinson revealed that being part of the La Sallian community has been his dream, making it easier for him to accept the offer to coach the Green Archers in Season 86 of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines men’s basketball tournament.

“The opportunity to coach the school I dreamed of playing back in 1995 is really something I didn’t wanna let go of,” Robinson said a day after being appointed as La Salle head coach replacing seasoned tactician Derrick Pumaren.

“Yesterday, I was able to speak to (La Salle president) Bro. Bernie (Oca) and that was the only time I could say that I’m truly part of La Salle right now. I went through a lot but I know it’s worth it because it’s something I dreamed of for the longest time.”

Robinson has what it takes to lead La Salle back to the UAAP finals. He started coaching in college when he handled San Sebastian University from Seasons 87 to 89 and Lyceum of the Philippines University from Seasons 90 to 94 of the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

Three years ago, he was tapped as head coach of Phoenix Super LPG, leading it to impressive runs in the Philippine Basketball Association.

Robinson said he will always stick to his morals as he embarks on a new coaching journey.

“I will live by the principles of faith, service, and communion,” he said.

“I will serve La Salle to its purpose, together with the team, the players. It’s a bigger responsibility but this is something that every coach wants to have an opportunity to represent a team that has so much tradition.” “I’m just a part of it. I’m here to serve.” Robinson said he is not making any promises, but he will do everything to get the job done and power the Green Archers as they launch a comeback from a forgettable season last year.

“I’m not even looking at what happened in the past seasons because it is not in my control,” he said.

“What I can control now is what’s in front of me right now. And that’s building a program that’s gonna be aligned with what values La Salle’s with.”
