The Department of Agriculture has approved the system accreditation of Poland to export live commercial poultry such as chicken and turkey and its corresponding hatching eggs and day-old chicks to the Philippines.

In an Administrative Circular 4 signed by Agriculture Senior Undersecretary Domingo Panganiban, DA said the Bureau of Animal Industry On-Site Verification Inspection in representative farms was conducted in response to the government of Poland’s application for system accreditation of live poultry.

DA added the inspection is in line with the initiative of the Polish government to export live poultry to the Philippines from 17 to 30 October 2022 (inclusive of travel time).

“Based on the BAI Verification and Inspection Team final report, the Poland government has complied with the requirements provided in the Terrestrial Animal Health Code of the World Organisation for Animal Health and relevant Philippine Standards,” the administrative circular read.

The BAI-Pre-Inspection and Accreditation Review Committee for Live Animals, Animal Feeds, Veterinary Drugs, and Biologies evaluated the results and findings of the inspection on 6 January 2023.

“(We) found no imminent risk to source live poultry (chickens and turkeys) and their corresponding HEs and DoCs from Poland for export to the Philippines,” DA said.

“The importation of commercial poultry (chicken and turkey), DoCs, and HEs from the Government of Poland are subjected to existing veterinary quarantine rules and regulations,” DA added.

Ban on chicken, poultry importation

In early January this year, DA banned the importation of chicken and other poultry products from Poland, Ireland, Denmark, Czech Republic, Chinese Taipei, Ecuador, Moldova and Peru amid the outbreak of avian influenza.

It ordered the immediate suspension of the relevant items’ processing, application review, and issuance of sanitary and phytosanitary import clearance.
