Department of Public Works and Highways-National Capital Region announced on Sunday that it has started repairs on the inner lane extension joints of the southbound portion of two flyovers within Circumferential Road 5.

The agency said that it is resuming road work in the area nearly a week after the completion of similar bridge extension joint repairs that started last month.

DPWH Metro Manila First District Engineer Medel Chua said that the current road work will involve repairs on the four-meter southbound portions of the inner lanes of the C5-Pasig Boulevard and C5-Ortigas Flyovers aiming to finish off the rehabilitation efforts in the said portions of C5 until 25 February.

“The project will replace the old bridge expansion joints, allowing more stability to the structural integrity of the bridges,” Chua said.

DPWH-NCR urged motorists with wide vehicles to utilize the service roads of the respective flyovers from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning due to the limited width of the lane that will be opened for vehicles.

The agency previously closed the 3.5 meter first lane of the two flyovers from 2 December to 15 January, beyond the agency’s target completion date of 30 December.

At least P12.9 million has been allocated for the repair of five expansion joints along the C5-Ortigas Flyover, while P18.7 million has been allocated for the road work involving seven expansion joints along the Pasig Boulevard Flyover.

The two flyovers in C5 have been undergoing maintenance work, with the Pasig Boulevard Flyover constructed in 1998 and the C5-Ortigas Flyover in 2004.
