Batican shoots hot 68

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Ralph Rian Batican of Del Monte shot the day’s best score — a sparkling four-under-par 68 — to lead the boys’ 9-10 age-group division at the start of the JGFP Pueblo de Oro Junior Open Saturday.

Batican, who was edged by Jared Saban in Davao City, made six birdies against two bogeys to open a 17-stroke lead over Franco Qui.

Four players also came through with sub-par scores to lead their respective categories.

Korean Youngdu Cho and Cliff Richard Nuneza each carded a 71 to share the lead in the boys’ 15-18.

Jinna Lee, another Korean, returned a 69 to lead Kiara Montebon by six shots in the girls’ 15-18.

Brittany Tamayo fired a 69 to take the top spot in the girls’ 9-10, 13 shots ahead of Kimberly Barroquill­os.

Davao champions Zero Plete, Nicole Gan, Lucas de Guzman and Stephanie Gan set up repeat victories in their respective divisions.

Plete carded an 88 to pace the girls’ 13-14 while Gan returned a 76 to lead the girls’ 11-12.

De Guzman took an 11-shot lead over Ethan Franco Lago after shooting a 77 in the boys’ 6-and-under while Stephanie Gan shot an 87 to pace the girls’ 6-and-under.

The other leaders were Clement Ordeneza (75) in the boys’ 13-14, Jacob Gomez in the boys’ 11-12, Gunner Lucas Velez (97) in the boys’ 7-8, and Brianna Macasaet (81) in the girls’ 7-8.
