Bren Esports flaunted its might, beating ECHO, 2-1, in the SIBOL men’s Mobile Legends: Bang Bang qualifying tournament for the 32nd Southeast Asian Games in Phnom Penh Cambodia in May.

Bren, the M2 Mobile Legends world champion, was impressive from start to finish as it trampled an ECHO squad that is still savoring the sweetness of its title conquest in the M4 Mobile Legends world championship recently.

With the win, Team SIBOL will be coached by Bren mentor Francis “Duckey” Glindro in the biennial meet, where the Philippines is the reigning champion.

“With their win, they have secured Coach Francis Glindro as head coach of Team SIBOL MLBB men’s division for the SEA Games 2023,” SIBOL said in an announcement.

Similar to the previous SIBOL qualifier, the national Esports team opened tryouts to teams as whole and not as individual players.

In the previous biennial meet in Hanoi two years ago, the country was represented by M3 champion Blacklist International.

But this time, the SIBOL top brass opted to shake things up and only pick the head coach of the winning team in the qualifiers.

The head coach, for his part, will be given the freedom to assemble his dream team from the pool of players in the top four teams of the qualifiers.

Aside from Bren and ECHO, other teams who made it to the top four were ONIC Esports and GameLab.

“The roster for the team will be determined via Team SIBOL Combine where the best team composition will be determined from the top four team,” SIBOL added.

Among those in the pool whom Duckey can tap to represent the country are two-time M-Series world champion Karl ‘KarlTzy’ Nepomuceno, M4 Most Valuable Player Benedict “Bennyqt” Gonzales, top roamer Tristan “YAWI” Cabrera, Mobile Legends Professional League Philippines Season 10 Rookie of the Year Kyle Angele “KyleTzy” Sayson and Bren skipper Angelo Kyle “Pheww” Arcangel.
