P1-B housing seed money eyed
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is looking into putting up a subsidy fund for the government housing program with P1 billion seed money.
Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony for a government housing project in Quezon City on Tuesday, Marcos called on Congress to allocate funds for an interest subsidy support for housing projects in the next national budget.
“So the government is committed to secure the needed housing interest support for 2023,” Marcos during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino Housing Project — Batasan Development and Urban Renewal Plan.
“This is why House Speaker Martin Romualdez is here because I now call on Congress, for your support, in including housing interest support as part of the regular appropriations for the succeeding years,” he added.
Recognizing that some beneficiaries of the housing project will not be able to afford the monthly amortization for the units, Marcos assured them that the government would come up with the needed housing interest support this year.
The President also encouraged the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development to continue its efforts in forging and strengthening partnerships with other government agencies and the private sector to secure requirements for housing production and funding.
House to go all out
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives will go above and beyond to help President Marcos Jr. achieve his goals for the country, including the provision of a roof over the heads of six million Filipinos in the course of his tenure.
Speaker Martin Romualdez said the Marcos administration’s six million housing units target, expected to benefit 30 million Filipinos, is ambitious yet attainable through its stakeholders’ cooperation.
