Cancer-stricken Tenorio eyes October return

-

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel star LA Tenorio is looking to see action when the Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner’s Cup unwraps in October.

In a statement, the 38-year-old Tenorio said he is doing very well in his chemotherapy session in which he is flying to Singapore every two weeks to treat his Stage 3 colon cancer.

He added that his body is responding positively, making him believe that he can return to active duty when the Kings defend their crown in the season-opening conference starting 15 October.

“Right now, my treatment continues. I go there (Singapore) every two weeks for my sessions. This is a long process but I am very positive because of the good feedback I am getting from my doctors and, of course, from the support of those who are praying for my speedy recovery,” Tenorio said.

“Hopefully, I will make a return in October. But the most important thing is that my treatment will be over and I have to regain my playing condition so I can help my team defend the title.”

Tenorio was at the peak of an impressive career when he was diagnosed with colon cancer last March.

In fact, he holds the record for consecutive games played at 744 before he missed their 112-107 win over Meralco on 1 March due to “groin injury.”

Tenorio eventually admitted that he is battling cancer and will have to sit out indefinitely.

Still, despite spending a lot of time away from the court, Tenorio remains active in worthy projects.

Just recently, he helmed the pilot episode of his newest vlog Sa’n Si Miguel.

The new vlog aims to engage audiences and provide information on San Miguel Corporation’s many projects in support of nation-building aside from its presence in the PBA.

“I also want to promote the projects and investments that San Miguel has in the country, at least to the fans who have been following me,” Tenorio, who has more than 190,000 followers on Facebook and 269,000 on Instagram, said.

“For those who don’t know, San Miguel is more than a food and beverage company. It is also involved in tollways and airport in Bulacan. It also has a lot of projects like agro-industrial complexes and investments that help our countrymen.”

Tenorio added that an athlete’s responsibility is not only to play his best every game, but also to interact with fans.
