Benilde joins Pasinaya Festival with exhibits, workshops, art mart and play
Young student artists will showcase their creativity and craftsmanship as the Cultural Center of the Philippines holds Pasinaya: The CCP Open House Festival on 3 February.
The biggest multi-arts festival in the country offers around 300 shows, workshops and interactive activities in music, theater, dance, visual arts, film and literature. While on-site events are set to fill the spaces of the CCP Front Lawn, Tanghalang Ignacio Gimenez, Vicente Sotto Street and Liwasang Kalikasan, the segment of Paseo Museo invites spectators into the various galleries and art spaces in and outside of Manila.
Included in the roster of events is Art Punô!, a one-day art fest that celebrates the creativity and skills of the promising, homegrown talents from the courses and organizations of the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde. The title is a combination of the word art and the Filipino word puno, which means “to be full of.” This activity promises an exhilarating day filled with imagination, inventiveness and individuality.
Organized by the Benilde Arts Management, the lineup will include a tour of the 30 Lives exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design.
It features an array of works that respond to themes of play and strategy as well as original game applications and software developed by Interactive Entertainment and Multimedia Computing students.
Also on display is a wide range of comics made by budding illustrators from DrawINK. Its catalog has works in different genres and subjects, such as slice of life, mystery, Filipino mythology and folklore, fantasy, thriller, horror and romance. Titles include Monsters Beyond Us, Adventurer’s Stop and Love, Faith.
Artelier, a team of traditional visual artists, will set up a gallery of paintings that explore the theme “Kinaiya,” which refers to inner character. It focuses on the unique characteristics and ventures that shape an artist.
Also on deck will be a watercolor workshop to be facilitated by painter, educator and Artelier mentor Abe Orobia together with young artists Kianna Ysobelle Diaz and Ysshi Carla Caburnay.
Meanwhile, novel and affordable art pieces by Benildean artists will await at the Art Mart. “Art Punô” is free and open to the public. It will be held at the Benilde Design + Arts Campus on Saturday, 3 February, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
