Ramos eyes solid showing

Two-time Asian Junior Championships Rosegie Ramos vows to give her all in the upcoming IWF World Cup in Phuket, Thailand to secure her spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Ramos, 20, said in a radio interview that she looks to apply the lessons she learned at the 2024 AWF Asian Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, in the final mandatory competition for those aspiring to make it to the Summer Games this July.

The Zamboanga City native finished with a silver in the snatch of 88 kilograms and a bronze medal in her overall lift of 190 kgs in the women’s 49-kg event last week.

“For me, training continues, I can’t say I’m already there but I’m working hard to get there. I can’t do it alone,” Ramos said.

“Everything is good so far. I just felt intimidated back in Tashkent because I had my period during the clean and jerk. I still gave my all.”

As of now, Ramos is in ninth place in the International Weightlifting Federation Paris 2024 Olympic Qualification Ranking.

She needs to stay within the top 10 of the rankings to get an outright berth to the French capital as she, John Fabuar Ceniza, Vannesa Sarno and Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz have strong chances to get automatic slots.

Still, Ramos admits there’s still a lot of work that needs to be done in the Thai tilt.

“I always play against them, especially lifters from Thailand. They’re strong but the next time we meet, I can say I can take on them,” Ramos said.

“I still eat normally but I can’t overdo it. I just follow the meal plan but maam (nutritionist) Jeanette (Aro) is on top of it.”
