In response to severe flooding that affected the Davao del Norte and Davao de Oro lowlands in January, Globe swiftly mobilized relief operations and communication support to assist affected families and individuals.

The initiative is part of the company’s longstanding commitment to embody “malasakit,” a core value that translates to genuine care and compassion for its customers and the communities it serves.

Heavy rainfall triggered flooding in the two regions that lasted days last month, leaving houses submerged and residents displaced, forced to seek shelter in evacuation centers and along roadsides.

In response to the crisis, Globe set up Libreng Tawag and Libreng Charging booths at strategic locations in Barangay Guadalupe, Carmen town and in Mankilam and San Miguel in Tagum. These booths enabled residents to communicate with their loved ones and stay connected.

Globe also distributed life-saving food aid to 176 households in Purok 5, Barangay Guadalupe, Carmen.

The operation was spearheaded by key Globe leaders, including Jimbo Cordero, territory business head; Rozy Opina, district business head; James Lopez, external affairs for Mindanao; Jheryl John Callo, regional support operations; and Arnel Estrada, regional field operations.

Rodnelle Dacudag, manager for north operations at Mars Agri Ventures And Commodities Inc., an authorized distributor of Globe products in the Davao region, also lent support. “At Globe, we always endeavor to act swiftly to provide support for our customers and communities, especially during critical moments. We know that connectivity and food aid is crucial, especially in times of disaster,” said Patrick Gloria, Globe vice president for external relations.

In the latest wave of floods in the region, Globe has also provided urgent support, including extended payment due dates for Globe Postpaid users and connectivity support for Globe At Home users, including free 5GB of data for eligible Globe At Home Prepaid WiFi customers and free 15GB of data for Globe At Home Postpaid users.

TM customers in the affected regions, meanwhile, received free All-Net SURF for one day, with unli allnet calls and texts, 100MB data for internet browsing, and 100MB to use Facebook, Viber, Whatsapp and X (Twitter).

Globe teams on the ground continue to assess the situation and are ready to send support as needed.

The most recent flooding in the Davao region has left 21 dead, with over 1 million people affected in Northern Mindanao, Davao, SOCCSKSARGEN, Caraga and Bangsamoro, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council. The flooding, caused by the northern monsoon and a low pressure area, has left a damage toll of P54.9 million.
