BAD HABITS THAT BLOCK HAPPINESS

- BEYOND WELLNESS CORY QUIRINO

Comparing yourself to others will only make yourself miserable. Focus on your own self and your goals in life. You will find yourself more content in the long run.

ver the course of numerous interviews in my various TV shows, I have gathered valuable life lessons from our experienced guests.

Apart from health and wellness, there are a few introspective self-help pieces of advice if one wants to advance emotionally, mentally and spiritually.

OHere they are. 1. WHY ME?

Feeling like a victim when you feel that you are the only one with a problem. There are more than eight billion people on this planet. You are not alone. Everyone has to deal with their own issues.

And your problems are yours — not anyone else’s. By constantly asking yourself this question, you will continue to attract situations which will challenge you. Reverse it by thinking differently. It begins by blocking the habit of feeling persecuted.

2. UNFORGIVENESS

Of course, your pain and anger are justified. It hurts to be wronged, misunderstood and criticized. If

someone has shamed you or violated your rights, you have every recourse to seek justice.

However, there will be a time in your life when holding on to anger can actually damage you. It will eventually eat you up from insideout. You may not notice it but all that bitterness will be a deterrent to any joys that hope to enter your life.

This is because there is this shield of wrath you wear that serves as a barrier. Psychiatrists agree that forgiveness can bring healing to both the offender and the offended.

3. THERE IS ALWAYS TOMORROW.

If you are lucky, tomorrow may come. If you are not, then tomorrow is today. Try not to postpone any plans you might have — the book you promised to write, the church you wish to build, that romantic get-away you have long delayed or the vacation you deserve. Do not wait to meet those unfulfilled dreams.

4. NOT ENOUGH SLEEP.

The value of good sleep is priceless.

It can save your life. The brain and your nervous system cannot function on overdrive. So, start getting enough sleep — seven to eight hours of quality sleep.

5. NEGLECTING YOUR SELF-CARE.

We all need pampering. Attend to your needs. Your priority is health.

Find time to make a checklist of the must-dos in order to get into better shape — a more positive frame of mind, a more fulfilled heart.

6. THE GRASS IS GREENER.

Comparing yourself to others will only make yourself miserable. Focus on your own self and your goals in life. You will find yourself more content in the long run.

7.ACCEPTING ANY AND ALL COMMITMENTS.

It is difficult to turn down all those invitations, right? But do you really have the energy to attend them all? You could try doing so. But at the end of the day, you will find yourself exhausted. Try to pace yourself by prioritizing activities.

Affirmation: “There is only one me on this earth. And that makes me special.”
