Cebuana jungolfer zeroes in on Phl Open title

The youth brigade has continued its frenetic march to change the guards at Philippine golf.

And for the second straight day, it was Grace Quintanill­a, the 17-year-old junior golfer from Cebu, who is front and center.

Quintanill­a pressed on with a sizzling four-under-par 67 to pad her lead to four shots on Wednesday in the Philippine Ladies Open at Manila Golf Club.

Playing out of Alta Vista Golf and Country Club, Quintanill­a has amassed a two-day total of 137 and will only need to play steadily on the last round Thursday.

Laurea Duque scored the only other sub-70 round of the day with a 69 to take second spot at 141, while Korean Li Ji Won is at third following a 72 for 147.

The same young group which turned heads on opening day sustained its game and occupied the top 12 and ties.

Alessandra Luciano and Reese Allyson Ng are at fourth place after identical 74s, 13 strokes off the pace. Anya Cedo is solo fifth one stroke behind, while Precious Zaragosa and Althea Gaccion are a stroke further at joint sixth.

Kiara Montebon and Lia Duque are at 153 following rounds of 73 and 76, respective­ly; while Francesca Nicole Gan and Lia Rosca are at shared eighth at 154

Anna Kei Fernandez is at solo ninth at 156 with Tashanah Balangauan and Crista Miñoza sharing 10th (161).

In Class A competitio­ns, Melissa Lee holds fort with 170 total entering the final round. Rafa Anciano is three strokes back at second place, while Aily Kidwell is two shots further back.

Grace Caffyn continued to lead Class B competitio­ns with a two-day total of 187, leading Rica Baltazar and Grace Montilla who had tallied 189 and 192, respective­ly.
