Oppenheimer and Succession brought home the top prizes, Outstanding Performance by a Cast, in the film and television categories at the 30th Screen Actors Guild Awards on 24 February (25 February, Philippine time).

The prestigious awards ceremony, which was held at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles, California, was streamed live on Netflix for the first time.

Oppenheimer stars Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. won Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role and Supporting Role, respectively. They had previously bagged the same awards in different award shows, including the BAFTAs and the Critics Choice Awards.

Da’Vine Joy Randolph also replicated her earlier wins for her stellar turn in The Holdovers by claiming the award for the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role.

On the other hand, Lily Gladstone of Killers of the Flower Moon won the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role, breaking the winning streak of Poor Things’ Emma Stone.

While the last season of Succession claimed the top prize in the television category, the lead actors of The Bear, Last of Us, The Crown and Beef stars took home the individual awards.

Ali Wong and Steven Yeun of Netflix’s Beef remained on a winning streak as they were honored with the Outstanding Performance in a Limited Television Series award, a feat they achieved in previous award ceremonies, such as the Primetime Emmy Awards and Golden Globe Awards.

The SAG Awards was also a night to celebrate for multi-awarded actress and singer Barbra Streisand. The Hollywood icon was honored with the biggest award given out that night, the SAG Lifetime Achievement Award.

As sidelights, there were unexpected cast reunions of popular television series and films. The Devil Wears Prada co-stars Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt presented the award for Best Actor in a Comedy Series. Hathaway and Blunt mimicked Streep’s frosty demeanor as the film’s lead character, Miranda Priestly.

The stars of Breaking Bad had a full-circle moment when they got together on stage to present the award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series, a category they won a decade ago.

A similar nostalgic moment happened for Modern Family stars Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Ed O’Neill, Eric Stonestreet and Sofia Vergara as they reunited on stage to present the award for Outstanding Ensemble in a Comedy Series.

Meanwhile, Liza Soberano turned up in her first SAG attendance as a total headturner in a Pamella Roland gown.

The 26-year-old Filipino-American actress, who made her Hollywood debut in Lisa Frankenstein, has been getting positive reviews by critics and global audiences for her witty performance as Taffy.
