LIGHT AND EASY

Farm Fresh makes short work of Capital1

- BY MARK ESCARLOTE @fromtheriles

Farm Fresh wasted no time notching its first win of the season after a swift, 25-16, 25-18, 25-16, crushing of Capital1 in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference Thursday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

Young and aggressive, the Foxies showed spunk and energy throughout the match that proved too much for the expansion club Power Spikers to handle as Farm Fresh barged into the win column after two failed starts.

It was a one-sided affair with the Foxies dictating the pace of the game anchored on wingers Trisha Tubu and

Chinnie Arroyo.

Other than going down 0-2 in the third set which it easily erased in one fell swoop, Farm Fresh was never threatened in its dominating victory over undermanned Capital1.

“Super happy that we’re able to score a win this conference. But we know we still have a lot to work on,” Farm Fresh captain and main setter Louie Romero said.

The playmaker dished out 12 excellent sets that helped the Foxies unleash 47 attack points with Tubu and Arroyo accounting for a combined 22 kills.

Tubu had 15 points she gathered from 12 kills, two kill blocks and an ace for the Foxies, who needed only 78 minutes to finish off the winless Solar Spikers.

“We still have a lot of lapses to address but we all know that we’ll be able to polish that moving forward in the conference,” Tubu, who got 19 points in the Foxies four-set loss to defending champion Creamline last week.

“We learned a lot from our first game. We used what we learned from that game,” she added.

Arroyo had 11 points from 10 attacks and one ace, Kate Santiago saw limited minutes with just two sets of action, coming in as a reliever in the second set but still managing to score six while Pia Ildefonso and Alyssa Bertolano got five points each.

Capital1 absorbed its second defeat in as many games.

The Power Spikers had far less firepower than their opening day straight sets loss with Rovee Instrella, Jorelle Singh and Aiko Urdas sitting out.

No Capital1 player reached double-digit scoring with Sydney Niegos finishing with nine points including seven on attacks.

Niegos had little help from offense with Ja Lana, Heather Guino-o, Kat Villegas, Des Clemente and Shirley Salamagos all chipping in with a paltry three points each.

‘Super happy that we’re able to score a win this conference. But we know we still have a lot to work on.’
