LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — Mayor Jomil Espino of Bugallon town was injured along with his two companions when the Nissan Frontier Navarra they were riding collided head-on with a Toyota Hi-Ace UV Express along the national highway in Barangay Tonton, here, late the other night.

Senior Superintendent Rolie Saltat, Officer-in-Charge of the Police Provincial Office (PPO), said the accident happened at 11:50 p.m. Saturday when the mayor’s vehicle, driven by Amado John Jefferson Espino, veered to the opposite lane and ran smack into the oncoming UV Express vehicle.

Saltat said Mayor Espino, the driver, and their companion Joseph Mark Steven Espino, were hurt and rushed to the Jesus Nazarene General Hospital in Lingayen for medical treatment. The driver of the Hi-Ace van was also taken to the same hospital.

Traffic investigators were still working on the case as of press time yesterday.

Meanwhile, at least six people were injured when an Elf truck loaded with softdrinks lost its brakes and rammed through 16 vehicles before ramping to a halt in front of a fastfood chain outlet in Barangay Baligatan, Ilagan, Isabela, earlier Saturday.

Senior Supt. Amorsolo dela Cruz, Isabela police director, said Aristotle Danguiloan, 48, married, and a resident of Dodan Panablanca, Cagayan, has been detained over the incident that happened at 9 a.m. The six injured were taken to a local hospital.

Danguiloan is set to be charged today with reckless imprudence resulting in multiple injuries and multiple damage to property.
