Piolo Pascual:
Man of the hour
With the box-office success of his movie with Sarah Geronimo titled “The Breakup Playlist,” all eyes are on Piolo Pascual again. And as they say, when it rains, it pours – and the actor seems to be catching every drop.
“The Breakup Playlist” reportedly earned R15 million on its first day. The film, produced by Star Cinema & Viva Films and directed by Dan Villegas, tells the story of two bandmates, Trixie (Geronimo) and Gino (Pascual), who will fall in love and eventually break up after Trixie becomes more popular and successful.
Now, Pascual, hailed last month as Box Office King at the 46th Box Office Entertainment Awards of the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation (GMMSF), is set to return on TV with “Written In Our Stars” alongside Toni Gonzaga, Sam Milby and Jolina Magdangal.
At a recent press conference, Pascual gave a glimpse of his role in the series. “Ako si Gary Angeles. I play an organic farmer.
Nakatuluyan ko dito (ang character) ni Tin (Gonzaga). A certain tragedy will separate us.”
According to scriptwriter Keiko Aquino, “Written In Our Stars” is about destiny; how love molds people. She said, “ Lahat kasi ng characters dito motivated by love, whether they stumble or do bad things, it’s because of love.”
Pascual is excited over the project because he personally believes in destiny.
“No matter what we do, our destiny is written in the stars,” said he, waxing poetic. “It’s just a matter of believing and praying for it to happen. And even before we were born, we’re destined to do something already.”
After working together in “Starting Over Again,” Pascual said he and Gonzaga already have a strong bond on and off camera; something even a change in her status won’t affect. Recall that Gonzaga tied the knot recently with her long-time boyfriend, director Paul Soriano.
“Wala naman akong problema na nag-asawa siya…wala namang nagbago,”
Pascual said. “Tin has always been professional. She’s one of the very few actresses na masasabi mong ‘She keeps her word.’ Ganu’n pa rin naman ’yung work ethics niya…mukha lang naging mas maganda lalo.”
This early, some already anticipate comparison between Pascual and Milby in terms of looks and acting prowess. Is Pascual bothered? Not a bit, apparently.
“Ever since he got out of ‘PBB (Pinoy Big Brother),’ naging kaibigan ko na siya. I’ve seen him grow. He’s really my little bro,” he quipped.
Considered as one of the most talented and admired artists in show business, what else does Papa P want to achieve in his career?
“
Gusto ko na maayos ’yung trabaho ko para maging ehemplo hindi lang sa mga manonood, (kundi) bilang tao. Kung papaano ako mag-trabaho sa set, kung paano ako magtrabaho sa industriya… gusto ko lang maging mabuting example sa peers ko at sa mga ka-trabaho ko,” he said.
