Top boxer seeks release from ALA

- By DENNIS PRINCIPE

A top boxing prospect wants to quit ALA Boxing Promotions saying their partnership has gone sour and he would like to try to revive his career under a new management.

Undefeated world-ranked superbantamweight prospect Genesis Servania said he has been inactive for the past eight months but could not get a fight because he has not been officially released by ALA Promotions although his contract with the boxing group expired last June.

The 24-year-old Servania (26-0, 11 knockouts) is the third-rated contender of WBO 122lb world champion Guillermo Rigondeaux of Cuba and is just a notch lower than second-ranked Nonito “Filipino Flash” Donaire.

Servania’s last fight, a 12-round decision win over Mexican Juan Luis Hernandez, was one of the featured bouts of Pinoy Pride 29 held last February in Davao City.

Servania admits he will be forever grateful to the father-and-son tandem of Tony and Michael Aldeguer for guiding him to where he is right now.

He said irreconcilable differences with ALA gym trainers make it impossible for him to continue fighting under ALA.

“Hindi na kami magkasundo ng mga trainers. Marami na kaming isyu,” he said. “Tinatanaw ko na malaking utang na loob ko sa ALA pero boxing lang ang hanap-buhay ko para makatulong sa pamilya ko.”

Because he has not been cleared or released by ALA, Servania said he could not get the go-signal from the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) to resume fighting as the government agency must see ALA’s release.

“May manager na ako sa Japan at may schedule na sana akong laban. Sana naman makuha ko na yung clearance kasi hindi ako makaalis. Ubos na din ang ipon ko at sa boxing lang ako umaasa,” said Servania.
