‘SAF 44’ deserves PNoy apology – Marcos

- By ERWIN G. BELEO and MARIO B. CASAYURAN

LUNA, La Union — A forthright apology from President Aquino must be obtained by the families of the 44 slain Special Action Forces (SAF) commandos in the Mamasapano incident, Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos, Jr. said yesterday as he visited the tomb of one of the fallen SAF members, Police Officer 3 Omar Nacionales, in this town.

“The ultimate blame lies on the President,” said Marcos when he spoke with relatives of PO3 Nacionales, accompanied by Luna Mayor Marvin Victor Marron, at the Luna Memorial Park, here. Nacionales, it was learned, hails from Marcos town in Ilocos Norte, where the senator previously served three terms as governor.

Citing the chain of command that leads directly to the President, Marcos said: “The President will not only apologize to the families of SAF 44, but give all the demands and all those promises to the surviving families and file charges against those involved in the massacre.”

“He (Aquino) is the Commander-inChief and it seems that they have broken the PNP’s chain of command that’s why it (operation) caused problems. So if there is anybody responsible (for the problem) and I think those identified in the Senate report should be included (in the case),” he added.

The senator, who is running for vice president, also bewailed the slow-turning wheels of justice for the SAF 44.

“It’s been nine months since the January 25 Mamasapano incident but until now the case against those responsible for the killing of the SAF 44 are still in the preliminary investigation stage,” Marcos noted.
