Duterte: Ditch politics, let elected leaders work

- By ARGYLL CYRUS B. GEDUCOS PRESIDENT DUTERTE VICE PRESIDENT ROBREDO

President Duterte yesterday stressed that the people should now forget about politics and just let the elected officials carry out their mandated duties, in response to the impeachment complaint filed against him before the House of Representatives and the one being planned to be filed against Vice President Leni Robredo.

In an ambush interview in Bukidnon, Duterte said it has only been nine months since the last elections so the people who are eyeing their impeachment should just stop and let them do their work.

“We just had an election a few months ago and we go into a stigma roll of ousting our officials including me,” he said after his speech during the groundbreaking of a drug rehabilitation center in Malaybalay, Bukidnon.

“We should forget politics. Let the elected leaders of this country do their work. You know whatever happens, the leaders are elected by the people,” he added.

According to Duterte, until such time that an elected official commits an action which deserves the judgment and scrutiny of the public, the people should just stay on the right path.

“Ako naman (Me), I don’t mind the–I don’t even answer the challenges and the charges [against me]–it’s useless. Why should you [bother]?” he said.

Meanwhile, Duterte also urged the people to stop trying to oust elected officials and respect the “sacred vote” of the Filipinos.

“Kaka-election lang natin (We just had an election, nine months [ago]? Tapos (And then) you go into this thing of ousting elected leaders. Mabigat ‘yan (That is serious). Sagrado ang boto ng Filipino (The votes are sacred), let it remain that way,” he appealed.
