Independence Day of Bangladesh
THE 26th of March marks the Independence Day of Bangladesh, a South Asian country which has borders with India, Myanmar, Bhutan, and Nepal. This national holiday commemorates the country’s independence from Pakistan in March, 1971. In recent years, the citizens of Bangladesh celebrated the special event with parades, concerts, cultural fairs, and various public events. TV networks broadcast special programs that show Bangladesh’s rich history and cultural heritage. Members of political organizations and international non-government organizations (NGOs) usually visit the Jaityo Smriti Soudho memorial to celebrate the day and pay their respects.
Considered the largest fragment of the Bengal region, Bangladesh is home to approximately 170 million people of various ethnic backgrounds. Although most of the population belongs to the Bengal ethno-linguistic group, there are also Meiteis, Khasis, and Santhals. Bangladesh is known for its biodiversity and rich natural resources, making it an interesting place for scientists and wildlife experts.
The country is a unitary parliamentary republic and actively participates in international organizations such as the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), the World Trade Organization, and the Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC). It is also one of the largest contributors to the United Nations Peacekeeping Forces.
We congratulate the people and the government of Bangladesh led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and President Abdul Hamid on the occasion of their Independence Day.
