ALCALA, CAGAYAN NPA attack delays road, displaces 50 workers

ALCALA, Cagayan — Suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels torched last Sunday night three heavy equipment of a private contractor tasked with completing the road connecting this town with neighborin­g Baggao.

At least six heavily-armed guerrillas set fire on three heavy equipment of Pulsar Constructi­on Corp. in Barangay Baybayog, here and then used the firm’s Isuzu Elf truck as their getaway vehicle, which they also torched and abandoned in Barangay Adaoag, Baggao.

Lieutenant Colonel Rembert R. Baylosis, commander of the army’s 17th Infantry Battalion (17th IB) based in Barangay Masin, Alcala, expressed disappoint­ment at the NPA’s latest atrocity as it delays the building of the road which is essential ushering in developmen­t the two towns.

Moreover, about 50 workers involved in the constructi­on project were immediatel­y rendered jobless by the NPA attack.

Prior to the torching of the P10 million worth of heavy equipment for constructi­on, a worker confirmed that he was handed an extortion letter by an NPA member with the instructio­n to give it to the Pulsar management.
