- By JEL SANTOS

The Assistant City Prosecutor of Caloocan was gunned down in front of his rented residence in Barangay 63, Caloocan City yesterday morning.

Sr. Supt. Chito Bersaluna, Caloocan City police chief, said Caloocan Asst. Prosecutor Diosdado Azarcon, 57, was killed on Galauran St. in Barangay 63.

Justice Undersecretary Erickson Balmes said the NBI has dispatched a team to investigate the ambush.

Initial investigation showed that at around 7:35 a.m., Azarcon was about to board car when two men aboard of a motorcycle attacked him.

"The prosecutor was about to ride his car when two gunmen suddenly appreared. A witness said that one of them pulled out a gun and shot him," Bersauluna told the Manila Bulletin.

"The prosecutor sustained gunshot wounds to the head and in his right leg. The gunmen could have shot his leg first. Then, they shot him in the temple when he can no longer walk," he added.

The family of the prosecutor denied to be interviewed

Police are still trying to determine whether or not the attack was work-related. (with a report from Jeffrey G. Damicog)
