Rescued dogs up for adoption in Taguig

- By MARTIN A. SADONGDONG

Pet lovers are being encouraged by the city government of Taguig to adopt rescued dogs currently housed at the Taguig City pound to help promote animal welfare in the city.

Taguig City Veterinary Office head Dr. Alexis Siblag said nine of the 45 rescued dogs staying at the city-run animal shelter are now up for adoption.

Siblag also assured the public that the rescued dogs have already been assessed and cleared of contagious diseases.

“These dogs have been spayed and neutered to avoid reproduction since one of the program’s purposes is to also control animal population,” Dr. Siblag added.

“The whole adoption process is free and open to all Taguigeños. Interested city residents need only to visit the Taguig City Veterinary Office, fill-out an application form, choose their desired dog, and submit themselves for a background check prior to the release of the animals,” Siblag explained.

Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano said the pet adoption drive is part of the local government’s mission to promote animal welfare.

“These rescued dogs deserve new homes with caring families. This initiative expresses the intention of the city that every ‘bantay’ has a right to be taken care of,” Cayetano said.

Interested applicants for the adoption of dogs should visit the Taguig City Veterinary Office located at the city’s Model House along Cayetano Boulevard in Barangay Ususan, Taguig City. For more information about their other services, please call the Taguig City Veterinary Office at 811-8919.
