South Korea completes hospital aid to Iloilo
ILOILO CITY — The South Korean government has completed its R300million program for the improvement of maternal and child health in Iloilo province.
Funded by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Area (GIDA) project involved the construction of Comprehensive Emergency Obstetrics and Newborn Care (CEmONC) facilities.
Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. said CEmONC facilities were built in Aleosan District Hospital in Alimodian town, Jesus M. Colmenares District Hospital in Balasan town and Ricardo S. Provido Sr. Memorial District Hospital in Calinog town.
KOICA also provided aid to rural health units (RHUs) in the towns of Alimodian, Leon, San Miguel, Calinog, Bingawan, Balasan, Batad, Estancia, and Carles.
Present at last week’s closing ceremony for the project were Shin Myung Seop, Koica director for Philippines; Prof. Dongwoon Han, program director; Dr. Maria Socorro ColmenaresQuiñon, assistant provincial health chief; and Dr. Judy Ann Dumayas; chief of the Iloilo Hospital Management Office.
KOICA also provided R200 million for the Rice Processing Complex in Pototan.
The Korea Economic Development Cooperation Fund extended a R8.9billion loan for a mega dam project in Calinog. (Tara Yap)
