South Korea completes hospital aid to Iloilo

ILOILO CITY — The South Korean government has completed its R300millio­n program for the improvemen­t of maternal and child health in Iloilo province.

Funded by the Korea Internatio­nal Cooperatio­n Agency (KOICA), the Geographic­ally Isolated and Disadvanta­ged Area (GIDA) project involved the constructi­on of Comprehens­ive Emergency Obstetrics and Newborn Care (CEmONC) facilities.

Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. said CEmONC facilities were built in Aleosan District Hospital in Alimodian town, Jesus M. Colmenares District Hospital in Balasan town and Ricardo S. Provido Sr. Memorial District Hospital in Calinog town.

KOICA also provided aid to rural health units (RHUs) in the towns of Alimodian, Leon, San Miguel, Calinog, Bingawan, Balasan, Batad, Estancia, and Carles.

Present at last week’s closing ceremony for the project were Shin Myung Seop, Koica director for Philippine­s; Prof. Dongwoon Han, program director; Dr. Maria Socorro Colmenares­Quiñon, assistant provincial health chief; and Dr. Judy Ann Dumayas; chief of the Iloilo Hospital Management Office.

KOICA also provided R200 million for the Rice Processing Complex in Pototan.

The Korea Economic Developmen­t Cooperatio­n Fund extended a R8.9billion loan for a mega dam project in Calinog. (Tara Yap)
