Public urged to help keep Cebu ports safe

-

CEBU CITY – In light of recent terrorist threats and the ongoing conflict in Marawi City, the Cebu Port Authority (CPA) has urged passengers to cooperate keeping the Cebu ports safe.

“Security is everybody's concern. Hence, we need the public's cooperation to ensure that conflicts would just be confined within Marawi City. Let us help the government in purging any possible threats of terrorism. Let us make the port of Cebu a hard target for terrorists,” said Supt. Glenn Sarador, CPA Officer-in-Charge on Port Security, Safety and Environmental Management.

The CPA has already met with stakeholders and has been boosted security measures at the port making them “comparable to Level 2”, Sarador said. Under that level, equipment such as underchassis mirrors, handheld metal detectors and handheld radios should be frequently used.

Additional security personnel were also deployed to sensitive posts to conduct inspections, he added.

CPA has been coordinating with the Philippine Coast Guard, Maritime Industry Authority (Marina), and the maritime police.

A Memorandum of Understanding was issued by CPA General Manager Angelo Verdan directing port managers, private port operators and local government-operated ports to such security measures in place. (Kier Edison C. Belleza)
