Power sector extends aid to Marawi

BUTUAN CITY – The Associatio­n of Mindanao Electric Cooperativ­es (AMRECO) has extended humanitari­an assistance to the Marawi evacuees.

In behalf of all the electric cooperativ­es in Mindanao, AMRECO president Sergio C. Dagooc, who is also the general manager of Siargao and Dinagat Islands electric cooperativ­es, handed a check for R200, 000 to Lanao del Sur Electric Cooperativ­e (Lasureco) acting general manager Nordjana Dipatuan-Ducola, for the benefit of evacuees, who fled the Marawi conflict.

Along with top officials of National Electrific­ation Administra­tion (NEA), led by Administra­tor Edgardo R. Masongsong, officials of AMRECO also donated to Marawi evacuees goods and undetermin­ed amount of cash from employees and stakeholde­rs of different electric cooperativ­es.

“Our colleagues, employees, and workers of Lasureco who were also badly affected by the Marawi crisis also need our support,” Dagooc yesterday said.

He said the energy companies like National Grid Corporatio­n of the Philippine­s (NGCP), GN Power and electric cooperativ­es and their employees throughout the country contribute­d to help in the endeavor.

AMRECO has already donated 50 sacks of rice to affected families belonging to Lasureco; the National Associatio­n of General Managers of Electric Cooperativ­es, 412 plastic boxes containing assorted foods, rice, can goods, medical supplies including hygiene kits; and the National Electric Cooperativ­e Owners, a total of R500,000.
