Pagcor expediting resumption of RWM casino operations
The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor) on Tuesday said the government is losing around ₱12 million to ₱14 million a day from the non-operation of Resorts World Manila (RWM).
Pagcor Chairman Andrea D. Domingo, in a round-table discussion with Manila Bulletin editors, also said that the gaming agency needs to immediately resolve the suspended license of RWM as it puts the jobs of more the 6,000 employees and 10,000 indirect employees at risk.
“For the whole month of June, we could have lost 1384 million. If it continues, let’s say for the whole year, that remittance is about 14.5 billion a year. It’s a big problem for us,” Domingo said.
However, before RWM is given the go-signal to resume operations, it needs to comply with Pagcor requirements, mainly focused on security and safety, Domingo added.
“Last week, Resorts World requested for the lifting of the suspension… What we did is we made a template of all the requirements for safety, security for the training of the manpower, and how to harden the Resorts World as a target,” the Pagcor chief said.
“We were informed in their letter that they have done all of the requirements and they are now ready to open,” the Pagcor chief said during the Manila Bulletin Hot Seat roundtable interview with editors yesterday.
On Monday and Tuesday, Domingo said Pagcor sent a team of inspectors to check on the compliance of RWM to the prerequisites for the lifting of its suspension order.
“What we’re doing for the last two days, we’re working on ensuring that all of the safety and security requirements that we’re now requiring are in place,” she said.
Domingo, meanwhile, disclosed the safety measures being imposed within the RWM complex will be implemented in other integrated resorts operating in the Entertainment City, including Solaire, City of Dreams, and Okada Manila as well as in the provinces.
“We’re not imposing this not only to RWM, we going to impose it to all our other integrated resorts including those situated in the economic zones of Clark and Subic,” Domingo said.
