Comelec monitoring brgy election developments
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said it is continually monitoring developments related to the postponement of the October 23 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan polls.
“The en banc is continually and actively monitoring developments related to the postponement of the elections,” Comelec Spokesman James Jimenez said in a statement.
He said this following the advice of Senator Francis Escudero to postpone the printing of the ballots for the upcoming polls since Congress is still on recess.
According to Jimenez, the proposal to delay printing of the ballots is not an entirely novel idea.
He said in the past, the Comelec has deliberately ramped down the pace of its Barangay Elections preparations in response to the perceived imminence of legislation to postpone the electoral exercise.
“However, it must be noted that any slowing down of Comelec preparations must be based on sufficiently high levels of probability of postponement, such that the postponement can no longer be considered a question of ‘if’ but of ‘when’,” said Jimenez.
