SM grocery chain reaches 265 branches

- By JAMES A. LOYOLA

SM Markets, the country’s biggest food retail chain, now has 265 branches nationwide as it continues to expand its coverage of the Philippines from its Aparri store up north to its General Santos branch down south.

In a statement, SM Markets said that it has an expansion rate of 30 stores per year with the goal of providing world-class food shopping in every city and municipality in the Philippines.

“It aims to bring its stores to the far reaches of the country, even in places no one imagined an SM Markets store can open, to deliver world-class products and services to every Filipino household,” the firm said.

SM Markets came from the unified brands of SM Supermarket, Savemore Market, and SM Hypermarket as part of SM’s continuing innovation.

Having a holistic view of the disparities of rural and urban markets pushed SM Markets to close the gap through its stores, especially those in remote areas, which act as main shopping centers for their communities.

SM Markets also contributes to its communities’ progress as top taxpayers that gave them 30 recognitions from different cities and municipalities as their top tax payer.

The firm has also received three Corporate Gold Bagwis seals and 163 store level Gold Bagwis Seals from the Department of Trade and Industry.

SM Markets has also bagged the Philippine Retailers Association’s (PRA) Best Supermarket and Best Hypermarket of the Year awards with SM Hypermarket earning Hall of Fame status for winning back-toback from 2014 to 2015.
